A very beautiful book about the large collection of national treasures and juyo bunkazai items in the Ōyamazumi shrine. Of several armours, there is also an additional picture from the back. There are a few smaller and cheaper catalogs also.
The shrine is difficult to reach but a must for people who like the old armours.
Title: Sengoku kawari kabuto Author: Keizō Suzuki, Takashi Miyazaki Publisher: Kadokawa Shoten, 1984 ISBN: None Language: Japanese Illustrations: Numerous color pictures, some black and white pictures Other: 116+70 pages, 37 cm by 26.5 cm, hardcover Topics:Kabuto, Katchū, Menpō, Paintings ID: B0025
As the name suggest, this over sized book focuses on the kawari kabuto from the Sengoku era. Although it would off course have been nice to have multiple views of one helmet, the pictures are of a high quality and for example much better then the more famous Spectacular Helmets of Japan book. Fabulous book.
This famous large format book is based on a Japanese armour exhibition that was held in the Kyōto National Museum in 1987. The large photos are excellent.
There is a much smaller (and much cheaper) catalog of the same exhibition also.
Title: Katchū shasei zushū (Nakamura Shundei ikō) Author: Shundei Nakamura Publisher: Yoshikawa Kōbunkan, 1979 ISBN: None Language: Japanese Illustrations: Numerous color drawings Other: 85 loose pages with drawings, plus text book, 36 cm by 26 cm Topics:Kabuto, Katchū ID: B0023
A gorgeous set of drawings of old Japanese armour with a high level text of scholar Keizō Suzuki. 500 sets.
Title: Katchū - nihonjin no biishiki Author: Chōgorō Kaionji Publisher: Tōkyō Bijutsu, 1971 ISBN: None Language: Japanese Illustrations: Color and black and white pictures Other: 39 cm by 30.5 cm, hardcover Topics:Kabuto, Katchū, Menpō ID: B0022
This large volume book on Japanese armour is more an art book then a study book with the large and sometimes bold pictures. The black and white pictures have sometimes too much contrast to show all the details, but the fact that there are sometimes detailed pictures and views from different sides (mainly from famous armours) makes it interesting. Limited to 700, and originally came in a big wooden box. It also exist with a red box…
This volume is part of another beautiful series, this time about Japanese national treasures. Contains beautiful pictures, also about ceramics, textiles, offerings to shinto shrines.

Gorgeous book about what was considered the best western collection of swords in the west, before it was auctioned after the death of Mr. Compton. Beautiful photography. Also worthwhile are the three auction catalogs and a book about an exhibition of part of the collection.
This is a beautiful book published by the Tōkyō National Museum after the big 1976 exhibition.
Mostly old armours, swords, koshirae etc.
The sode on the cover are from my all time favorite dōmaru in the National Museum.
Title: Genshoku nihon no bijutsu katchū to tōken (21) Author: Kanzan Satō, Motoharu Ozaki Publisher: Shōgakkan, 1993 (1970) ISBN: 4-09-663125-6 Language: Japanese with some English Illustrations: Many color and black and white pictures Other: 250 pages, 35.5 cm by 26.5 cm, hardcover Topics:Kabuto, Katchū, Menpō, Nihontō, Tōsōgu ID: B0018
This is part 21 of a 30 volume book series. In a later edition, the series was extended to 32, and this volume became nr. 25. Content is identical as far as I can tell.
Beautiful color pictures, mostly from old armour and swords.
This is part 26 of a 30 volume book series on jūyō bunkazai pieces, about half of them armour. Many pictures, although mostly rather small. Focuses mainly on armours from Heian till Muromachi. Very interesting to see an overview of the jūyō bunkazai armour pieces.
